August 2015Carle’s Bratwurst, Inc. is located in America’s Bratwurst Capital, Bucyrus, Ohio where they serve their authentic, in-house German bratwurst. Harry and Alta Carle opened a one-room hometown grocery store in 1929.  They have since passed the business down to their children whom though they expanded their offerings to a dining area, deli, and catering service, spreading their name throughout the country, continue to practice the original family traditions that started it all. Customers come from miles around to enjoy a wide range taste of high quality foods from the only remaining Bucyrus bratwurst maker. With a comprehensive inventory and an ever-growing business, the owners at Carle’s Bratwurst were looking to update their 13-year-old cash register system that forced them to manually perform many tasks that are now automated by updated technologies. Pioneer POS partnered Ganymede Technologies Corp. with J3 Point-of-Sale’s software to keep operations at Carle’s running efficiently through a new age of inventory management and customer service.

Several Pioneer POS S-Line terminals were installed along with several other vendor components to complement the system including Nexlink computers, APG cash drawers, the Cayan Genius credit card platform, CAS deli scales, and Zebra printers among several others. With the S-Line, employees at Carle’s are now able to benefit from the touch screen terminal and integrated receipt printer. Carle’s can now profit from the advanced capabilities of the J3 Point-of-Sale’s software .  Some of the benefits they are now able to take advantage of are inventory control, accounting, rewards programs, sales history, house charges, and time clock programs.  Employees no longer have to update pricing and keep track of inventory manually, allowing their time to be spent building and maintaining customer relationships.

The S-Line’s all-in-one design allows easy setup and saves room for valuable counter space that can be used for advertising specials and additional product placement. Screen sizes are available at 12”, 15” and 17” models. It is powered by Intel’s Atom, up to 4th generation of CORE i7. It runs most Windows operating systems and is customizable by a number of additional peripheral add-ons such as barcode scanners and magnetic stripe readers. Overall, the S-Line’s small footprint is incredibly valuable to retailers and restaurants like Carle’s when counter space is limited.

Fred Fischer from J3 Point-of-Sale stated, “It was a big step for them going from a manual system to a fully automated inventory control package. They now have immediate access to data that used to take hours to compile.” In addition to inventory control, the installed package included a rewards program that prints customer coupons as rewards are earned at the time of sale. Brand recognition and customer loyalty are both core values of Carle’s Bratwurst, and packages like this take the dining and customer service experience to the next level.

Overall, the install took two full days. One day for the installation of equipment and one day to “go live” with all systems. Flexible training was provided for 3 days over a 3-week period. Fischer also concluded, “Although it is a new installation, they are starting to realize the value of the many features the software offers.” Carle’s Bratwurst can now continue to offer authentic foods and exceptional customer service while recognizing productivity increases through inventory control and real time analytical inventory movement.
